PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Greetings Members,
I start off with an announcement as the new Central Ohio VAN Board President! I am eager to begin serving in this capacity, but not without first recognizing our most recent President, Elizabeth Garrabrant. When changes delayed our typical board transition 6 months, Elizabeth graciously agreed to stay on to steer our organization. Let me say THANK YOU, Elizabeth, for your dedication to VAN. She brought us stability, and a vast spectrum of experiences which she used to move our organization to the next level. I truly hope she will stay committed to working with us because her contributions to our organization are invaluable.
As your new President, I will do my best to keep The Volunteer Administrators’ Network of Central Ohio (VAN) moving forward. Normally we would be cruising through our summer, enjoying a little more sunshine, and enjoying our great local summer events! VAN would be inviting our members to monthly events, in person! The Professional Development and Membership Teams had some great 2020 events planned, but due to COVID we have had to modify those events. Thank you to all our members for continuing to attend our virtual events thus far.
Although the pandemic will prevent us from meeting in person a while longer, VAN is committed to bringing you the best member service, the best workshops, and webinars possible. We will continue to highlight your interests and causes. Please continue to send us your ideas, because our members have so many perspectives for all of us to learn from!
In closing, it is well-known to all of us that volunteerism is part of our country’s social fabric, particularly during times of crisis. COVID has fundamentally changed how we can connect with and help each other, but we are happy for this network and the opportunity we have to stay engaged. We hope that you will continue to be an active and valued member of our organization by renewing your membership. Your participation and contribution is highly valued.
Gerlinde Higginbotham
VAN Central Ohio President
