VANtage: April 2023

Galen Roth | Published on 4/20/2023

Dear VAN Members,

Spring flowers are blooming and plants are sprouting - although today feels more like winter; warmer weather is right around the corner (hopefully a really close corner, just a few blocks away). For some of our member organizations, our busy schedules become over-filled as spring and summer roll around, but as we all know, volunteerism and volunteer engagement never slow down. That's why VAN offers professional development sessions, networking and an all-around awesome group of peer volunteer administrators to learn from, bounce ideas off of and share shop.

VAN meets on the 3rd Thursday morning of each month and each session is a different learning opportunity from the last. Won't you join us? THIS Thursday as Katie Justice from The Ohio State University's College of Social Work will be discussing the benefits of continuing education, how to go about tackling the daunting task of finding the right program and other ways to continue your education aside from a degree program.

OTHER INFO

Calling all Volunteer Engagement Professionals; AL!VE is seeking our input for a good cause!

AL!VE Board of Directors announced a job-leveling project that will help articulate the career pathways for a volunteer engagement professional. Part of AL!VE’s mission is to advocate for our field, and there is a lack of data that speaks to the career pathways for a volunteer engagement professional, causing many professionals to leave the field in search of other advancement opportunities. Responding to member needs around advocacy for the role of a volunteer engagement professional, our goal is to create a Career Pathways report that demonstrates the various job levels within our field and the competencies and skills for each level, giving practitioners and employers a roadmap of progression.
